Person Centered and Cognitive Behavioral Approach

We have expertise in several areas utilizing a combination of Person-Centered Theory and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Anxiety, Depression, & Mood Disorders

Learning how to cope

Depression and anxiety usually occur together and can make us feel hopeless. While we cannot control the obstacles life may throw at us, we can control how we respond and how we let it affect our lives. You can take control of your life by implementing techniques learned in counseling sessions.

Relationship Issues/Family Conflict

How to have healthy relationships

Social relationships are of vital importance to our mental health but they can also bring about stress and difficulty. Whether it's a friend, family member, or romantic partner, navigating relationships healthily is essential for increased quality of life.

LGBTQIA

Working with an ally

The stigma surrounding LGBTQIA issues often increases the need for support. We often work with individuals who are part of the LGBTQIA community. While you may be seeking counseling for something completely unrelated to these matters, it is important that you feel you can truly be yourself and feel accepted during counseling sessions.

My Story

Shea Brown, Licensed Professional Counselor

Franklin County, Virginia has always been a place near and dear to my heart. When I began my journey to become a counselor 10 years ago, I never envisioned being able to own a private practice or that I'd be able to venture back home to do so. I value my upbringing in Franklin County, Virginia and consider it a privilege and honor to assist individuals from my home town who need support or help.

My name is Shea and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 10 years of experience in various positions in the mental health field. I graduated from Ferrum College in 2012 with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and obtained my Masters degree from Walden University in 2015. I have always been passionate about counseling and helping others, and I find joy in being able to assist individuals in their time of need. My goal is to provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space for anyone who may be struggling.

Sarah Liston

Licensed Professional Counselor

sarah headshot.jpg

Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with approximately 8 years of community mental health experience. I graduated from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise in 2012 with my Bachelors degree in Psychology and obtained my Masters degree from Radford University in 2014. I’m certified by the Virginia Board of Counseling to supervise Residents in Counseling and provide individual and/or group supervision.

I’m a nationally certified therapist in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and have an extensive history working with children (ages 4-17) who have witnessed and/or experienced trauma by helping to decrease symptoms associated with Post-Traumatic Stress. I’m also trained in perinatal mental health in order to better help clients navigate their unique paths throughout pregnancy and postpartum – I specifically focus on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (postpartum depression), grief and loss, as well as difficulties adjusting to parenthood.

Ever since I was a child, I always knew that I wanted to help others. Whether that be by providing support or helping to facilitate change, I want you to know that I am here for you. Together we can reach your goals.

I’m currently accepting new clients in-person or via telehealth. I take several insurance plans and also offer options for sliding scale payments.

Evan Boone

Licensed Professional Counselor

Counseling has never been just a career for me, it's a passion that literally runs through my veins. As a child, I spent countless hours watching my father, who was a counselor in the Franklin County School System for over 30 years, as he instilled in me just what an impact counseling can have on others' lives. As someone who was born and raised right here in Franklin County, I am truly privileged to have the opportunity to continue to serve this community.

I currently have over 11 years of experience in the mental health field. I graduated from Ferrum College in 2011, where I earned Bachelor's degrees in criminal justice and psychology. I later continued my academic journey at Capella University where I earned my Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling. I am currently licensed as a Professional Counselor here in the state of Virginia. In my free time, I love spending time with family and friends, as well as immersing myself into any activities associated with music and sports.

As a therapist, I believe in your story and your individual experience. A space that is safe, comfortable, and free of judgement is essential for your success. It is important that you are in control of your own therapeutic experience, and I believe my role as a therapist is to serve as a guide and emotional support for you through your own journey. To provide a more authentic process and promote psychoeducation, I aim to actively engage with you through discussions and person-centered support. “Pain is real, but so is hope”, and that is the main goal of my therapeutic approach: instill hope.

Emily Miller, BA, MA, LPC-E

Resident Counselor

Everyone always asks you when you are little, "So what do you want to be when you grow up?", and I've always known that answer - to be a counselor.  I've had this passion and abundance of joy in helping people.
I graduated from Roanoke College in 2017 with my Bachelors in Psychology.  I continued my education at Liberty University and graduated from there in January of 2022 with a Master's in Professional Mental Health Counseling. I am now in my residency with the Virginia Board of Counseling and would love to work with you! I am currently offering discounted rates for those without insurance, or those with an insurance we do not accept.
